These pictures were scanned from "The Mammals of South Africa" by Austin Roberts, who passed away on the 4th of May, 1948. Well known for his books on 'The Birds of South Africa' and The Sea Fishes" Dr Roberts was no doubt the greatest and best Ornithologist of his time. Dr Robert was self taught and had no formal education, was awarded an honory doctorate by the University of Pretoria. The Rev P, Smit of Port Elizabeth painted the coloured paints shown below. The book was published in May, 1951 |
